So why should you build a NeoHome? Some people think NeoHome are worthless. They don't do anything. They're just a waste of neopoints. Your pets can't even go to their NeoHome! Then why even bother making a NeoHome? Because it's fun and a challenge. Some people like to collect things. Some people like to battle. And others like to build NeoHomes. And, although you can't get a refund on NP spent on land and rooms, the items in your rooms and gardens are like money in the bank. When you fall on hard times, you can always sell some furniture and plants. :) I hope if you decide to build a NeoHome that you find much enjoyment in it.
Ok I want to build my NeoHome now! How do I do it? First you have to have a plot of land on which to build your NeoHome. The cost ranges from 1,000NP in Neopia Central to 25,000NP in Faerieland.
To begin the process of building your neohome go to the Your Items page and click on the neohome icon at the far right on the navigation bar at the top of the page. Then click on "Add/Remove Rooms or Gardens". Select which world you want your home to be in, and then click on the "Apply for Land" button.
It may take up to 24 hours to process your application. When your application is approved you will have a plot of land on which to build. Neopets also assigns you an address. Unfortunately you cannot choose your own address.
It is VERY important to plan your NeoHome on paper before you begin building rooms. Once you have built a room, you cannot change the position of the doors except by destroying the room and building it again. You will lose the neopoints you spent to build it and have to pay again to build another one.
To build a room in your NeoHome click on "Add/Remove Rooms or Gardens", then click on the section of your plot where you want to build a room. A window will open where you must make two choices. First you must select what material you want your room to be made of. The first drop down menu lists the choices, ranging from cardboard (150NP) to asparagus (60,000NP). Then you must select where you want doors in the room (north, south, east and/or west) on the second drop down menu. Once you have selected the position of the doors, you will see the results in the image above the menus. Check carefully to be sure the doors are in the right place! When you're sure everything is right, click the Build It! button. You will be told how many hours it will take to construct your room. You can check on the progress of construction at any time by clicking on "Building Status" on your NeoHome page. Before you start putting furniture into your rooms you should name them. (You will understand why in a second) To name your rooms click on "Add/Remove Rooms or Gardens", then click on the room you want to name.
In the window that opens, type a name for the room in the Room Name box; for example, Living Room, Kitchen, Emma’s Bedroom, etc. The room type seems not to make any difference, so you can skip that. Click Update Room and close the window. Now when you move your mouse over the room you should see the name. People who come to look at your NeoHome will also see it.
Where do I get furniture? - There are eight stores in Neopia that sell items for NeoHomes.
How do I arrange my furniture? - Go to your NeoHome page and click View Rooms or Gardens, then click on the room where you just put the item. You will find the item in the upper left corner of the room. Place your pointer on the item and hold down the left click button to drag and drop it. You can also rotate, raise and lower items by using the item's control panel.
How do I position furniture on a diagonal? - See information on rotation in the item control panel instructions above.
How do I remove furniture from a room? - Go to the room from which you want to remove an item. Click on the button below the rooms labeled go to Remove Items from Room. You will see a display of all the items that are in that room. Click on the item you want to remove. It will be sent back to Your Items.
Why doesn't all my furniture appear in the room? - Sometimes all the items don't load the first time. Refresh the page. You might have to do it a couple of times. I didn't know that chair was going to look like that! - Items in NeoHomes are seen from an aerial viewpoint. Some of them look quite different than you would expect.
Another thing you can do if you are interested in a particular item is to search the Shop Wizard for the cheapest one and try it out in your home. If you don't like it, put it in your shop immediately at the same price you paid for it.
How do I make a garden? - To make a garden click on "Add/Remove Rooms or Gardens", then click on the section of your plot where you want to have a garden. In the window that opens, click on the “Build a Garden!” button. You will be told how many hours it will take to prepare your garden. You can check on the progress at any time by clicking on "Building Status" on your NeoHome page.
Before you start planting and decorating your gardens you should name them. (You'll understand why in a minute.) To name your gardens click on "Add/Remove Rooms or Gardens", then click on the garden you want to name. In the window that opens type a name for the garden in the Room Name box, then click Update Room. Where do I get items for my garden? - The only Neopets shop that carries garden items is the Gardening Supplies shop on the second main shops map. The Igloo Garage Sale often has a few garden items, too. You can also find them in user shops by searching on the Shop Wizard, or at Auctions and the Trading post.
How do I put items in my garden? - Click on the item in Your Items. In the item window the drop down menu will list all your gardens (which is why it is a good idea to name them before you start planting and decorating.) Click on the garden that you want to put the item in.
How do I arrange my garden? - Go to your NeoHome page and click View Rooms or Gardens, then click on the garden where you just put the item. You will find the item in the upper left corner of the garden. Place your pointer on the item and hold down the left click button to drag and drop it.
You will notice that items in gardens work a little differently than furniture in rooms. You see gardens items from the front instead of from above. Also, they become larger when you drag them forward, which allows you to make some interesting 3-dimensional effects.
