Yooyuball

Introduction

Welcome to Yooyuball! In Yooyuball, the main game of the Altador Cup, you will battle one of the other 15 teams from a Neopian world in a tournament to win the treasured Altador Cup. You will be playing as one team throughout the entire tournament.

Controls and Setup

Most of the controls in the game can be useless, depending on how you play. I don't use half of them, and personally, I find it the best way to avoid making things complicated by using unnecessary controls.

The mouse is your most important control. You will guide your players by moving your mouse. Your left mouse button is for launching the ball (whether to another one of your players or into the goal). If you play well, this is usually all you will ever need.

     OR
These can toggle between players. I find this sort of pointless except for the fact it makes the game more realistic. You can easily play the game with only one character at a time.
     OR
This de-selects a player. The selected player will have a different color circle under him/her compared to the other players, who will all be the same color. These keys are also unimportant.

(Shift Key)
This one I actually recommend using! The shift key moves all of your players (except for the selected player) back to their original positions. Use this often. Having your players scattered among the opponent's side can clutter the field and make scoring goals more difficult.

That's all for controls! When you start your game you are met with a number of options. Choose left to right for direction of play. Most who read left to right will find playing left to right easier. For team formation, 3+1 works best for me and will work best for this guide.

After you select your play style, players from each team will come out in a time-wasting ritual, and then it's time to play!

Yooyuballs

Er... just kidding. There's one more thing you need to know before playing. The ball you play with isn't a conventional ball. Technically it's not a ball at all... it's a Yooyu! There are seven different types of Yooyus and each of them will react differently when thrown.

The Normal Yooyu is not all that special. It just goes forward at a normal speed. You'll probably see this guy the most.
The Fire Yooyu moves very fast. It zooms along the court and is much easier to score with than a Normal Yooyu.
The Snow Yooyu moves very slowly and is more difficult to score with.
The Faerie Yooyu is mischevious, curving when you throw it. It can be tricky to master; I discuss how to throw this Yooyu below.
The Mutant Yooyu is also difficult to work with because it acts randomly. It can act as a Fire, Snow, Faerie, or Darigan Yooyuball.
The Clockwork Yooyu will explode soon after the round starts unless you get it into the goal.
The Darigan Yooyu will move in the direction opposite of where you throw it. It can be difficult if you don't know the angles.

Gameplay

The game has started! Finally. First thing you need to know is getting the ball first. It's pretty simple. The Yooyu will pop up from the ground. Start clicking in between its ears (doesn't matter which Yooyu it is) like shown below, and you should be able to get the ball pretty easily.

Now it's time to the game play and where and how to use the different types of yooyu balls. These aren't exact ways to get the ball in the goal, but they point you in the right direction. If you keep practicing the way that the images below show, you will eventually be able to get the ball into the goal without mistakes.

Normal Yooyu

Up, around, and score. Pretty simple -- the normal yooyu is as cooperative as it sounds, so you have not much to worry about.

Fire Yooyu

Pretty much the same as the normal Yooyu, except you can shoot from farther away because the fire Yooyu is faster. Make sure it doesn't get into your opponent's hands, especially on your side. It makes it too easy for them to score.

Snow Yooyu

You will have to get close to the goalie on this one, because the snow Yooyu doesn't move fast... at all. It can be frustrating.

Faerie Yooyu

The faerie Yooyu is annoying. Like the snow Yooyu, you have to get close to the goalie. Just go straight and forward, and shoot. You want the Yooyu to curve upwards as opposed to downwards.

Mutant Yooyu

The Mutant Yooyu can annoyingly act like any other Yooyuball. You never know what it'll do. I recommend pretending like it's a Fire/Normal Yooyu every time, even if it acts like a Faerie Yooyu when you release it.

Robot Yooyu

The Clockwork Yooyu is just like a Snow Yooyu, except it explodes if no one makes a goal quickly enough. Just use the Snow Yooyu approach and hope you get a goal.

Darigan Yooyu

Try shooting the darigan Yooyu in the direction shown above from the point of the white lines shown above.

Tips
  • Use the Shift key often. (yes, I know I've already said this xD)
  • It's easy to steal the ball. So if your opponent gets it, make sure they don't keep it. Just ram into the front of them and you should easily get the ball.
  • Make sure that your opponent never gets the fire ball, especially on the left side. That makes goal making too easy for them.
  • If you lose a point, that point doesn't get added up to the opposing team's. It just gets subtracted from the amount of goals you have made in the current game.
  • Press the space bar in between goals to skip the animation.
  • The wagging tails and waving hairs are so annoying. And this non-tip/mini-rant is probably annoying too. xD Sorry.
