Poor Master Cell sometimes feels like a prisoner himself in the dungeon, watching over the war captives, and never leaving his post. Fortunately, he found sanctuary in a game he invented called Cellblock, which he now plays with the prisoners and guards alike.

Rules:

Cellblock is similar to the classic game of Tic-Tac-Toe. But instead of getting 3 in a 3-by-3 board, the object is to get 5 in a row on a 10-by-10 board. A little more challenging, but that's why I'm here to help you! ^^

Like Tic-Tac-Toe, players take turns to place their pieces on the Cellblock board. You, the player, will always be using the pieces with the Merridellian marks on them, while your opponent will use Darigan mark pieces.

Strategy:

Also similar like Tic-Tac-Toe, the most likely way that you're to win is to give yourself two winning openings, (two different open spaces at either a different or the same row of four) so that your opponent can't block both of them. The strategy shown here will work up until you reach the 6th opponent of any tournament, it it will cease to work completely on Tournament 11. Until then, enjoy the easy winnings.

Tips:

  1. In higher levels, don't stress the opening move too much. That one doesn't count for much. There's not much you can gain against the opponents with the first piece. (Unless the strategy listed above still works for your current opponent.
  2. They may be computer players, but they're not entirely stupid. Don't ignore when they have four pieces in a row just so you can make a different move. They will seldom forget their winning opportunity to block your move.
  3. If you're having difficulty, just take a break to cool your frustration and to clear your mind. It usually works when you're ready to give up after losing too many games.

The Players:

Prisoner One-Clop: The first opponent that you'll play against is Clop, a silent Moehog who frankly, stinks at this game. Just use the strategy shown above and you'll win over and over. Even in Tournament 11, you'll have little trouble with this guy.
Prisoner Two - Barallus: I don't really understand how this guy plays Cellblock while being tied up and hung upside down, but, whatever. Barallus is almost as easy as Clop. So naturally, just follow those same guide lines.
Prisoner Three - Squire Meekel: Meekel's sobbed the talent right out of him. You'll have little difficulty with this sad looking Kacheek too.
Prisoner Four - The Yellow Knight: Ol' Yeller, (heh heh) is the first challenger that's actually a bit of a challenge. He's still really easy, but he falls for the strategy above a little less often, leaving you to strategize for yourself.
Prisoner Five - Number Five: Personally, I don't think he's totally crazy. Of course, we all know that Jellyworld doesn't exist, but he still knows how to play a good game of Cellblock. He's slightly harder than the last player, but he still shouldn't be too much trouble.
Guard One - Galgarrath: This is the first real challenge of the game. Galgarrath won't fall for the above strategy very often, and can sometimes catch you in his traps. Be careful.
Guard Two - Haskol: Even harder than Galgarrath, Haskol likely won't fall for the above strategy at all. Just play your best and try to lure him into losing. And don't worry, now matter what they say, he'll leave your arms in tact if you when. (You'd better watch your legs though.)
The Warden - Master Vex: Duh duh DUH! The creator of Cellblock himself! He'll never fall for the now obvious strategy above, but he'll often snatch you into similar traps. This is the hardest player of Cellblock. He's no pushover at all. Oh, and did a mention that Vex and all the rest of the players get even harder as you ascend the tournament levels?

Prizes:

Bronze Medal: Tournament 1 - Level 4
Bronze Trophy: Tournament 1 - Level 8
Silver Trophy: Tournament 11-Level4
Gold Trophy: Tournament 11-Level 8

And so, I hope this guide helps you to quickly master the game of Cellblock, to earn money, and to get you a shiny new trophy. Good luck! You'll might need it! ^^"
